Brief Background

Mass Tourism has shown its potential to affect a tremendous negative impact to the destination and the community as well. Sagay being the home to one of the largest marine reserves in the country should be protected from the adverse effects of mass tourism. Hence, the City Government of Sagay embarked on advocating Sustainable and Responsible Tourism. The gestation process of developing an eco-tourism site is quite long. But its always worth the wait considering you have made the necessary parameters to protect the area. The development of sustainable tourism framework incorporating a community-based and pro-poor tourism approaches has now begun.
Sustainable and Responsible Tourism Advocacy

What does it mean. It only means that the direction Sagay’s tourism development respects, protects and conserves the bio-diversity of its protected
seascape. It considers first and foremost the protection of its environment and its continued existence for the next generations. It also set-up safety measures against the negative impact of tourism. We consider carrying capacity, and strict observance of the area’s rules and regulations. Activities are also geared towards allowing the tourist to be part of the conservation such as mangrove

planting, tree planting, Voluntourism and many others. This way tourists’ experience becomes more meaningful and they themselves becomes protector of the much of the threatened ecosystem. this has become our guiding principle in coming up with projects, events and activities.

I love my green Sagay, Let’s make it greener!

To educate and raise awareness on environmental conservation and protection of our community, and at the same time develop that sense of pride
and love for Sagay City, we have initiated another advocacy that will encourage community participation in greening our city. It seek community’s action to do their share for their City irregardless of your affiliation. As a active citizen of Sagay, what can you do to help make Sagay greener and better. It aims to increase involvement and participation and at the same time a sense of ownership. As we go along we will be improving this advocacy and will involve Sangguniang Kabataan. The DILG Sagay has expressed its intention to support this project.

Involvement of Museo sang Bata sa Negros in Environmental Advocacy

The strong partnership of Museo sang Bata sa Negros and the City Government of Sagay has achieved a lot in terms of educating Negrense children on the
valuable environmental lessons and what they can do to help to preserve our
precious sea and marine life. This partnership also has earned international recognition and likewise put Sagay in the international map. Despite limited resources, but because of continued partnership and mutual support,
thousands of Negrense children have learned how to help preserve our marine environment.
