TYPHOON FRANK IN MOLOCABOC

SAGAY CITY - - - Typhoon Frank  and tornadoes that hit Molocaboc Island razed down 34 houses and a chapel,  83 houses left partially damaged,  while 47 year old resident died of cardiac arrest.

  Molocaboc Island Brgy. Capt. Antonio Pasaylo said they were having their regular meeting at barangay hall at about 3:00 pm last June 20 when Typhoon Frank rages with strong winds and tornadoes.    He said 10 meters of a footwalk bridging the two islands, Molocaboc Daku and Diut was also destroyed. 

Merlita Sanipa, 47, married,  died of cardiac arrest upon seeing her house totally destroyed by a tornado. Ryan Lumontad, 17, was lifted about several feet by a tornado and was thrown about a kilometer from the pumpboat where he ducked to hide. Later he was dropped at the end of the island unconscious luckily near the shoreline.  He was left only with bruises. 

The City Government of Sagay distributed cash assistance, rice and goods to the affected residents while  a Korean national, Dawn Ann donated five sacks of used clothing.  The City Health Office also conducted medical mission in the island, the City Social Welfare and Development Office conducts counseling to the affected community while the City Engineering Office  prepares the rehabilitation of the footwalk and chapel as well.

Negros Occidental Governor Isidro Zayco, 2nd District Congressman Alfredo Thirdie Marañon and other socio-civic groups also donated relief goods to the  affected families.

Not spared of the fury of Typhoon Frank,  27 crew members of three fishing vessels, Virgo Star Libra Star,  VRF and DRAN-Reb were still missing while en route to Burias Island in Romblon.  Their families still hope to find their missing relatives. 

Missing crew are residents of Brgy. Molocaboc and Brgy. Old Sagay.

The missing crew are :  Jorey Niñal, Joren Iwayan, Eduard Tolyo, Romie Eden,  Edrial Causapin, Gerald Sabroso, Randy Muñez, Primo Muñez, Jr., Rodrigo Ortega, Warren Cawit, Jupiter Gilbuela, Norberto Ibañez, Emilio Layos, Noe Pasaylo, Manny Pasaylo, Tranquilino Muñez, Winok Muñez, Toto Muskado, Fernando “Pernie” Abogado, Toto Luding, “Ditos”, “Erol”, Mateo Muñez, Teddy de la Cruz, Jancyn de la Cruz, Burgos Mondejar and Reagie Hit

Eighteen crew members of Virgo Star Libra  Star survived  the tragedy.

Sagay City PNP recovered the body that was found floating near Panal Reef in Sagay Marine Reserve last June 8.  It was identified as Felipe Villacin, 29 years old, single and a resident  of Bacolod City.   The body was buried in Brgy. Old Sagay cemetery and was later claimed by its employer.
