The Filipino people are friendly, peaceful, and freedom-loving. We have a flair for the arts and a zest for living.

A legend once told, that a lovely Goddess in a playful mood, once cast a handful of emeralds into the blue waters, and where these jewels fell, there rose as island so deep green, which today known as the Philippines.

Folk arts are everywhere around us. We wear them , like fiber cloths and the bakya; we celebrate with them like the goings and colorful masks; we use them in our homes like pots, baskets and mats.

As thousands of islands make up this nation, thousands of Filipino hands shape our arts and crafts. Different interpretations reveal our cultural richness and diversity but coming from one and the same identity….Filipino!

Mats, Hats and baskets are everyday objects in the country. So common, that they are often taken for granted. Look closely at these objects and you will see the lives of people linked to a tradition and a lifestyle that has endured for many generations.

Look on how cleverly they are made! Designs conceived in indigenous minds, brought to life by creative hands passed on from generation to generation…
